Alabaster,
typical material of the Val dElsa, is the material chosen by the
artist to reproduce 4 chairs designed by Italian designers and normally
produced as furnitures: two armchairs (Sack by Teodoro, Paolini and Gatti;
Woman by Gaetano Pesce), one chair (First by Michele De Lucchi) and a
sofa (Eulogy by Afra and Tobia Scarpa). The first three sculptures have
been placed in the hamlet of Mensano, the last one, in front of the Casole
dElsa townhall. The works are rich in sensorial and conceptual short
circuits: first of all alabaster, which has been coloured using the traditional
technique of pigmentation, is now less diaphanous and more vivid than
usual. Confronting the windows of the little Romanic church of Mensano
- thin slabs of white alabaster - with the imposing presence of the revisited
Woman by Pesce, the contrast is evident.
