This treatment in fact makes the material slightly matt and similar to human skin so that those ears have an animal shape but also a human appearance. The same marble block has therefore at least four different textures, suggesting four different tactile values and evoking sensations suspended between memory and surreality: one might think of little rabbits hiding behind hedges so that only their ears are visible. It is not by chance that the room chosen for the installation is an old mill now used as a cellar. One could then imagine a sarcophagus which is also able to ‘hear’, as if what is firmly closed in ourselves, apperently ‘marbleized’ as a childhood memory, could actually go on grinding, generating sensations and determining our behaviour.
