Plastic bags

For his installation Pascale Marthine Tayou (born in Cameroon and after a Parisian episode now living in Bruxelles) has chosen San Gimignano’s football pitch, a public space which is also a symbol of the village’s social life. Pinned on the protection net surrounding the area, are millions of plastic bags collected by the artist during his numerous trips around the world. A simple gesture which belongs to all. Playing with the quantity effect, the same action multiplied to the infinite becomes an act of involuntary publicity as well as the opportunity to talk about travelling, of nomadism, leaving a trace of the countries visited. An immense flying painting floating in the wind, volatile installation to be renewed infinitely which is no longer the artist’s work and nurture itself of several other contributions.
