The project

Loris Cecchini winner of the competition for the realisation of Sonar, the House of Music, has created together with Alessandro Bagella, an ambitious project which mainly deals with the inside of the building for an extension of 200 m2. On the facade, Cecchini plays with a covering in orange linoleum, while inside curved lines dominates the frescos going along all the wall, through the mixing-desk and the bar, as metaphors of sound waves. A thin motive, painted white on grey, which comes from a software of three-dimensional design whose axis XZ (horizontal plan) have been distorted and digitally modified as to obtain the tromp-oeil of a continuous perspective space. The perception of the graphic space is further distorted by the adoption of ultraviolet lights, which enhance the deployment of the motive on the walls, given the optic illusion of a space dilated both in depth and length. A new game with matter and form, an example of contemporary art’s capacity of interacting with architecture, underlying and marking the atmosphere to transform it from space into a ‘place’ where visual art and music experience a constant encounter which is both immediate and permanent.
