Situated 26 kilometres south of Siena along the Via Cassia, Buonconvento was founded in the 13th century and due to it's strategic position was subject to many battles for it's control. The historic centre is contained within fortified walls completed in the 15th century. Among the buildings to be visited are the Museum of Val d'Arbia, the Palazzo Comunale, and the Museo di Arte Sacra, which is also the tourist office.
