Three
are the projects by Sislej Xhafa. The first is going to
be an actual "welcome", written in capital letters (realised
digging the ground according to a pattern different from
the rest) and located on a hill in front of the village,
so that it can be seen from several viewing points. A
simple and straightforward message which at the same time
provides a reflection on the modification of the landscape,
on the reception and the relation with the outside (as
a wider meaning of the "other"), and in some ways also
on the role of advertising messages which can be found
even in the remotest places.
The second work deals with the problem of the recognition
of the other and it various identity; representing a large
image realised on the curtain covering a building site
for the restoration of the museum next to the main church.
On these curtains is reproduced a hypothetical project
for the restoration of the building itself, according
to which the building would be turned into a mosque. It
is evident the remind to the recent immigration (mostly
from Islamic countries) and also to the incapability by
the richest countries of accepting diversities and ways
of expression others from our own, so that also the hypothesis
of building a place for the religious cult and the moral
reflection such as a mosque is judged as "aggressive"
and hostile.
The third intervention is of smaller size and it consists
of two cats in alabaster located at the entrance of the
church in Mensano. Although a domestic animal, the cat
nonetheless retains a contradictory and deformed symbolic
place in the history of religions where, from being considered
as object of veneration and cult, it has become symbol
of the negative or even of the infernal.
