On
the 15th of September 2000, a work of Mimmo Paladino (Paduli,
Benevento, 1948) will be for the first time presented to
the public. The work donated to the city of Poggibonsi,
will be permanently located within the Fonte dell Fate,
a XI century portico which covers a water spring and its
basin.
Comprehensive of 25 sculptures in bronze treated with pigments,
laid into the water of the spring, as if into an amniotic
liquid to preserve them, the work is a reminder of how all
life has its origins in water. The works have the shape
of men crouched in foetal positions and of crocodiles, representing
both human existence and previous living conditions. The
beings are displayed laid on sheets, as if immersed in a
sleep which in its turn recalls the images of dreams and
the profundities of the unconscious.
